English Version
Under a quiet silver sky, the moon has long been a symbol of longing. In ancient times, Chang’e lived beside Houyi, sharing a life shaped by devotion and simplicity. After Houyi’s heroic deeds earned him an elixir of immortality, he chose not to drink it immediately, hoping instead to preserve their life together. But fate rarely allows such balance to endure. The promise of eternal life attracted danger, drawing those who sought its power. One night, as tension reached its peak, Chang’e made a choice that would change everything. To prevent the elixir from falling into the wrong hands, she consumed it herself. In that instant, her body grew weightless, lifted by an unseen force toward the heavens. She reached back instinctively, as if she could still hold onto the world she loved, but the distance widened too quickly. Below, Houyi watched helplessly as the person he cherished most drifted beyond reach. Chang’e’s ascent did not lead her to paradise, but to solitude. The moon became her eternal home—beautiful, silent, and untouched by time. Within its pale glow, she wandered through empty halls, surrounded not by life, but by memory. The laughter she once knew echoed only in her thoughts. Meanwhile, Houyi remained on earth, carrying both honor and grief. Each night, he gazed at the moon, searching for a trace of her presence, offering silent rituals that bridged the distance between them. Over generations, their story transformed into a legend shared beneath the same moonlight that separated them. Chang’e’s immortality became a symbol not of triumph, but of sacrifice. Her story reminds us that eternal life, when stripped of connection, can become a quiet form of exile. And so, every time the moon rises, it carries more than beauty—it holds the weight of love, distance, and the cost of a single irreversible choice.
