Romance of the Three Kingdoms Chapter 103: The Star Falls at Wuzhang Plains as Shu Loses Its Greatest Pillar

2026-08-15

Silence settled over Wuzhang Plains as Zhuge Liang approached the final moments of his life. After years of exhausting campaigns and unwavering devotion to Shu Han, the legendary strategist could fight no longer. His passing marked more than the death of a chancellor—it symbolized the fading of an era and the loss of the kingdom’s greatest pillar.

English Version

Night settled quietly over Wuzhang Plains.

Stars filled the autumn sky above the silent Shu encampment.

Inside the command tent, the atmosphere had changed.

The endless discussions of strategy had disappeared.

Zhuge Liang lay resting, his face pale after years of tireless service.

The burdens of countless campaigns had finally exhausted even his extraordinary strength.

Outside, Jiang Wei, Yang Yi, Fei Yi, Dong Jue, and many other officers waited in complete silence.

No one dared disturb the stillness.

The physician slowly withdrew his hand after checking the Chancellor’s pulse.

He lowered his head.

No explanation was necessary.

Zhuge Liang slowly opened his eyes.

Despite his weakness, his thoughts remained perfectly clear.

He did not ask about himself.

Instead, his first question concerned the army.

“Do we still have sufficient supplies?”

Jiang Wei answered through tears.

“Everything has been prepared according to your plans.”

Zhuge Liang nodded gently.

“And the Wei army?”

Even in his final moments, his concern remained with Shu and the future of the Han.

After a long silence, he asked to be helped outside.

Above him, the stars shone brightly across the autumn sky.

Looking upward, he whispered quietly,

“I have not failed the Late Emperor.”

Those words moved every officer standing nearby.

Memories filled his mind.

Longzhong.

The alliance at Red Cliffs.

Liu Bei’s final trust at Baidicheng.

The repeated Northern Expeditions.

His life had never belonged to himself.

Every decision had been made for the restoration of the Han dynasty.

As the night deepened, the cold wind entered the tent.

The candlelight flickered softly.

One by one, Zhuge Liang calmly issued his final instructions.

Jiang Wei would continue military affairs.

Yang Yi would organize the retreat.

No unnecessary battles were to be fought.

Every order was precise.

Every detail had already been considered.

Suddenly, voices arose outside the camp.

Soldiers pointed toward the heavens.

A brilliant star crossed the night sky before disappearing into darkness.

An old veteran whispered,

“The general’s star has fallen.”

At that same moment, inside the command tent, Zhuge Liang quietly closed his eyes.

The feather fan slipped gently from his hand.

The greatest strategist of Shu Han had completed his final campaign.

Grief spread instantly throughout the camp.

Jiang Wei fell to his knees.

Yang Yi wept openly.

Thousands of soldiers silently removed their helmets and bowed toward the Chancellor’s tent.

Across the battlefield, news eventually reached Sima Yi.

At first, he refused to believe it.

Only after repeated confirmation did he finally accept the truth.

Looking toward the distant Shu camp, he sighed deeply.

“There will never be another like him.”

There was no celebration.

No victory.

Only profound respect.

His greatest rival had departed.

The autumn winds continued to sweep across Wuzhang Plains.

The war would continue.

But an era had quietly ended.

Though Zhuge Liang’s life came to a close, his loyalty, wisdom, and unwavering devotion would inspire generations long after the final battle had faded into history.
