故事中的女主角原本是一位三十六歲的普通母親，深受四名孩子愛戴，看似擁有平凡而安穩的家庭生活。然而，她童年時期所承受的心理創傷，長年深藏於內心深處，逐漸影響她對人生、人際關係以及情緒的判斷。最終，她犯下無法挽回的殺人罪，也從此展開長達近十五年的逃亡人生。
為了逃避警方追捕，她不斷更換身份、搬遷住所，甚至多次接受整形手術，希望切斷過去的一切痕跡。然而，每一次改變外貌與姓名，都無法真正擺脫內心的恐懼與罪惡感。警方持續發布通緝令，全國各地張貼她的照片，社會輿論與警方調查一步步縮小她的藏身空間，使她始終活在被發現的恐懼之中。
電影重現她自1982年8月19日犯案後，到1997年7月29日落網前，共14年11個月10天的逃亡歷程。就在追訴時效即將屆滿的數日前，她最終遭警方逮捕，使這起案件成為日本犯罪史上最具代表性的長期逃亡案件之一。

My World as I Saw It marks the feature directorial debut of acclaimed actress Eri Ishida, who also wrote, edited, and stars in the film. Inspired by one of Japan’s most infamous criminal cases—the Matsuyama Hostess Murder—the film examines the life of fugitive Kazuko Fukuda from her own perspective, focusing not on sensational crime but on the psychological journey of a woman whose life became defined by guilt, fear, and perpetual flight.
The protagonist begins as what appears to be an ordinary thirty-six-year-old mother, deeply loved by her four children and living a seemingly peaceful family life. Beneath that ordinary existence, however, lie unresolved emotional wounds dating back to childhood. Those invisible scars gradually shape her decisions, ultimately leading her to commit a murder that changes her life forever.
After the crime, she resolves to evade justice until the statute of limitations expires. Over nearly fifteen years, she repeatedly changes her identity, relocates across Japan, and undergoes multiple cosmetic surgeries in an attempt to disappear. Yet every new face and every new name only deepen her isolation. As wanted posters spread nationwide and the police investigation intensifies, the space in which she can hide grows steadily smaller, forcing her to live under constant psychological pressure.
The film chronicles her remarkable 14 years, 11 months, and 10 days as a fugitive, from the crime committed on August 19, 1982, until her arrest on July 29, 1997—only days before the statute of limitations would have expired. Rather than presenting a conventional crime thriller, the narrative concentrates on the emotional consequences of living without stability, trust, or peace of mind.
Eri Ishida approaches the story with restraint and compassion, exploring the complex intersection of motherhood, personal trauma, identity, and accountability. The film does not excuse or justify the crime; instead, it asks how childhood wounds, personal choices, and social circumstances can intertwine to shape a human life. Through its intimate perspective, the audience is invited to witness the emotional burden carried by someone living in perpetual fear while never forgetting the irreversible harm inflicted upon the victim and those left behind.
Supported by strong performances from Yoko Oshima and Shirō Sano, My World as I Saw It becomes less a reconstruction of a famous criminal case than a psychological study of remorse, loneliness, and the consequences of irreversible decisions. It offers a reflective examination of crime and humanity while encouraging audiences to consider the difficult questions surrounding responsibility, suffering, and redemption.
