After full bloom comes inevitable decline. In Chapter 12 of Dream of the Red Chamber, falling blossoms become a quiet metaphor for fragile emotions and the passage of time. What appears to be a simple shift in scenery carries deeper meaning, revealing how unspoken feelings surface most clearly in moments of loss. Beneath the beauty of change lies a growing awareness of impermanence.

English Version
Nothing remains in bloom forever.
In the garden, where beauty once seemed effortless, change begins to reveal itself—not dramatically, but gently, almost inevitably.
Chapter 12 turns toward this moment of transition.
Falling blossoms do not announce loss. They drift, quietly, marking the passage of something that cannot be held in place.
And in that movement, something else becomes visible.
Emotion.
Not the kind that is spoken or declared, but the kind that lingers beneath awareness—waiting for the right moment to surface.
As the flowers fall, the atmosphere shifts. What was once light becomes reflective. What was once shared becomes more personal, more internal.
Baoyu feels this change as a kind of unease he cannot fully explain.
Daiyu understands it differently.
She sees that beauty and loss are not separate.
That what makes something precious is precisely its inability to last.
And in that realization, silence deepens—not as distance, but as understanding.
Because some feelings do not need to be spoken.
They are already present
in what is fading.
