Okamoto Manta centers on a twenty-six-year-old part-time worker struggling to navigate everyday life while battling intense emotional volatility. Manta is not a conventional hero. He is awkward, impulsive, and often overwhelmed by frustrations that most people would consider insignificant. Minor inconveniences, misunderstandings, or moments of social discomfort can trigger powerful emotional reactions, leaving him constantly worried about losing control. To cope with these feelings, he has developed an unusual system. Once a month, when his stress reaches a critical level, he experiences what he calls his “limit day.” During these periods, fearing that his emotions may explode, he voluntarily confines himself to a specially equipped bed fitted with restraints, isolating himself from the outside world until the crisis passes. The problem is that these episodes never arrive on schedule. Their unpredictability makes it impossible for Manta to maintain stable employment. He repeatedly misses work without warning and finds himself fired from one job after another. Trapped in a cycle of instability and self-doubt, he struggles to establish a meaningful place in society. Despite his frustrations, Manta remains surprisingly sincere and vulnerable, desperately seeking understanding in a world that seems unwilling to slow down for him. His life takes an unexpected turn when Nakamura, a former colleague from a publishing company, offers him a mysterious opportunity. The task appears remarkably simple: keep several cardboard boxes safe for a few days and receive a substantial payment. For someone constantly facing financial uncertainty, the offer seems impossible to refuse. Yet as soon as the boxes enter his possession, strange events begin to unfold. Unusual individuals emerge, bizarre situations escalate, and reality itself starts to feel increasingly unstable. What begins as a straightforward job gradually transforms into an unpredictable adventure that forces Manta to confront his deepest fears and unresolved emotions.
