In Lian Huan, relationships are not linear paths but structured systems formed by personality, choices, and timing. Once this system takes shape, it begins to operate, gradually leading toward a particular outcome. The central question Yi Shu raises is not whether endings can be changed, but whether they are already embedded within beginnings. When two people meet, they bring with them their histories, values, and emotional patterns. These elements may not be immediately visible, but as the relationship unfolds, they surface and begin to shape interaction. The idea of “linkage” reflects this continuity—each choice is not isolated, but connected to previous ones and influential toward future outcomes. This interconnected structure gives the illusion of freedom while subtly guiding the relationship along a trajectory. Individuals make decisions within it, yet those decisions often remain within established boundaries. Yi Shu does not reduce this phenomenon to fate, nor does she deny human agency. Instead, she allows both to coexist. Relationships are shaped by structure, yet individuals continue to choose within that structure. This intersection creates complexity. When a relationship reaches its conclusion, there is often a desire to identify a single turning point—to locate the moment where everything changed. However, Lian Huan reveals that there is no singular cause. Endings are not determined by one event, but by the accumulation of countless small decisions. Each moment appears reasonable, even necessary, but together they form a clear trajectory that leads to an almost inevitable outcome. This blurs the distinction between beginning and end. The beginning already contains future possibilities, but these possibilities are not entirely open—they are constrained by initial conditions. Through this perspective, Yi Shu invites a reconsideration of choice itself. What appears to be free will is also the reinforcement of structure. Each decision strengthens certain patterns, which in turn shape the space of future decisions. This does not mean change is impossible, but it does mean that change requires awareness—an ability to recognize patterns before they solidify. Without such awareness, individuals are likely to repeat familiar paths unconsciously. The characters move within these cycles, sometimes attempting to break free, yet often returning to familiar patterns. This repetition is not due to a lack of will, but because the structure itself has inertia, pulling them back into established trajectories. The depth of Lian Huan lies in its refusal to offer resolution. It does not provide a method of escape, but instead reveals the existence of these cycles. It shows that relationships are not random, but governed by internal logic. Once one becomes aware of this, they may not completely alter the ending, but they can begin to see their position within the cycle—to recognize their role. And in that recognition lies the possibility of a different kind of beginning.
