English Version
Legacy of Love is a psychological horror film that combines family drama, mystery, and supernatural suspense to explore the emotional consequences of caregiving and grief. After the death of her father, Kana returns to her childhood home to care for her aging mother, who has been diagnosed with dementia. Hoping to reconnect with the parent she gradually drifted away from over the years, Kana devotes herself to providing constant care and rebuilding their fragile relationship. At first, her mother’s unusual behavior appears to be consistent with the progression of dementia—confused conversations, forgotten memories, emotional instability, and wandering through the house at odd hours. However, as the days pass, increasingly disturbing events begin to occur. Her mother speaks to invisible figures, recalls names that no family member recognizes, and behaves as though someone else is sharing the house. Ordinary rooms gradually become filled with an oppressive atmosphere, and even familiar objects seem strangely unfamiliar. Kana begins sensing that something beyond illness may be hiding beneath her mother’s condition, as though another unseen presence has quietly entered her life. The more she searches for logical explanations, the further reality slips away. Assisted by her younger sister and a psychiatrist who once became connected to their family through a past incident, Kana attempts to uncover the truth behind the strange occurrences. Yet every answer only creates new questions, leaving her uncertain whether she is witnessing supernatural phenomena or slowly falling victim to overwhelming psychological stress. Rather than relying on conventional jump scares, the film builds fear through silence, isolation, subtle performances, and the emotional exhaustion experienced by caregivers. Everyday routines gradually transform into sources of dread, blurring the boundaries between medical reality, personal trauma, and paranormal horror. Inspired by universal fears surrounding memory loss and family responsibility, Legacy of Love becomes more than a ghost story—it is an intimate examination of love, loss, identity, and the terrifying uncertainty of watching someone familiar slowly become someone unrecognizable. Its restrained storytelling and emotional depth create an atmosphere that lingers long after the film reaches its unsettling conclusion.
