曹操迎奉漢獻帝，遷都許都之後，聲勢迅速擴大。他以朝廷名義發號施令，逐步整合資源，穩固自身勢力。在政治與軍事上，皆顯現出非凡的手腕。
然而，天下並非只有曹操一人。
北方的袁紹，才是真正實力雄厚的霸主。
袁紹出身名門，四世三公，門生故吏遍佈天下。他佔據冀州、青州等富庶之地，兵多糧足，勢力遠勝曹操。若論實力對比，曹操仍處於劣勢。
兩人之間的矛盾，早在討董聯軍時期便已埋下。當時曹操主張速戰，而袁紹則猶豫觀望，兩人理念已現分歧。

After bringing Emperor Xian to Xuchang, Cao Cao’s influence grows rapidly. Acting in the name of the imperial court, he consolidates power and strengthens his position both politically and militarily.
However, he is not the only dominant force in the land.
In the north, Yuan Shao stands as a powerful rival.
Born into a prestigious family with generations of high-ranking officials, Yuan Shao commands vast territories, abundant resources, and a large army. In terms of sheer strength, he surpasses Cao Cao.
The tension between the two dates back to the coalition against Dong Zhuo. Even then, their differing approaches created friction.
Now, with Cao Cao controlling the emperor, the situation becomes even more delicate.
Cao Cao holds legitimacy, while Yuan Shao holds overwhelming power. This imbalance makes conflict inevitable.
Yuan Shao resents Cao Cao’s rise. He believes that, given his status and strength, he should be the one to dominate the court.
Cao Cao, on the other hand, is fully aware of Yuan Shao’s threat. He understands that confrontation is only a matter of time.
