Unlike Zhuge Liang’s patient and measured style, Pang Tong believed momentum was everything.
To him, hesitation was more dangerous than risk.
The longer the conflict dragged on, the greater the chance that alliances inside Yi Province could shift unexpectedly.
So he urged rapid advancement.
And for a time, the strategy worked.
City after city weakened under pressure.
Defensive lines began to collapse.
Yet the deeper Liu Bei’s forces moved into Shu, the more desperate the resistance became.
Among Liu Zhang’s remaining loyalists, Zhang Ren stood out as the most determined.
He understood clearly what others still tried to deny: Liu Bei was no longer an invited ally.
He was a conqueror.
Zhang Ren prepared an ambush in the rugged mountain terrain near Luofeng Slope.
The geography favored defenders perfectly.
Narrow roads. Dense forests. Elevated ground.
