English Version
April 13, 1940: The Walt Disney Company premiered the animated film Fantasia, a groundbreaking project that combined classical music with innovative animation techniques. Unlike traditional narrative films, Fantasia was structured as a series of animated segments set to famous classical compositions, performed by conductor Leopold Stokowski and the Philadelphia Orchestra. The film also introduced “Fantasound,” an early stereophonic sound system that enhanced the cinematic experience and set new standards for audio in film. One of its most iconic segments, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, featured Mickey Mouse in a magical and visually striking story that became a defining moment in Disney history. Although the film did not achieve immediate commercial success, it was later recognized as a masterpiece that expanded the artistic boundaries of animation. Fantasia demonstrated that animation could be more than entertainment, serving as a form of artistic expression that merges music, imagery, and storytelling. Its influence continues to be felt in both animation and film, inspiring creators to explore new creative possibilities.
