A second-hand car is just a machine, or so people think. But some believe that certain vehicles remember where they’ve been, and at night, they don’t always follow the driver.

I didn’t think much when I bought the car, it was reasonably priced, in decent condition, and during the test drive everything felt normal, the steering was responsive, the brakes smooth, nothing stood out, so I made the purchase without hesitation, for the first few days, everything was fine, it drove like any other car, until one night, when I was heading home late, the roads were nearly empty, I followed my usual route, but at some point, I noticed I wasn’t going the way I intended, I glanced at the navigation and saw the route had shifted, I assumed I had taken a wrong turn, so I reset it, but the car gradually veered off again, I didn’t think too much of it at first, assuming I was just distracted, but when I finally stopped, I realized I wasn’t anywhere familiar, it was an older residential street, dimly lit, most windows dark, I parked by the side and looked around, it felt unfamiliar but not alarming, I drove off shortly after and didn’t think much of it, in the following days, nothing unusual happened, until the second time, it was even later, the streets were almost completely empty, I didn’t use navigation, just drove by instinct, but halfway through, I found myself back on the same street, the same buildings, the same silent windows, I knew I hadn’t taken that route, yet the car had stopped in almost the exact same spot, something about it felt wrong, I stayed in the car and looked ahead, there was a unit with its door closed but a light on above it, I didn’t step out, I just sat there, the feeling wasn’t fear, it was something else, like this place was expecting someone to return, I didn’t stay long and drove away, after that, I started paying attention every time I drove at night, watching the roads carefully, but it didn’t change anything, sometimes I would deliberately take different routes, yet I would still end up on that same street, that same spot, facing that same door, I eventually looked into the car’s history and found that the previous owner had once lived in that area, I didn’t dig any deeper, but from then on, I tried to avoid driving at night, though there were times I had no choice, and during those drives, I could feel it clearly, the steering wheel wasn’t entirely mine to control, there was a subtle pull, guiding me in a direction I didn’t choose, I stopped resisting, letting the car move as it wanted, until it came to a stop, the street unchanged, the door still there, but one night, when I arrived, the door was open
