Written, directed, animated, composed, and edited almost entirely by Daishoshi Muramatsu, A Journey to Return “I’m Home” is a remarkable independent animated film created over the course of four years. Running approximately forty-five minutes, the project represents the vision of a single artist who transformed a deeply personal message into a universally moving cinematic experience with the support of crowdfunding and passionate audiences. The story follows Mana, a young girl who spends a quiet evening watching countless shooting stars disappear beyond the horizon with her childhood friend. As she gazes into the endless night sky, an indescribable feeling of familiarity washes over her, as though she has witnessed this exact moment before. Suddenly, she hears a mysterious voice unlike anything she has ever encountered. Although unfamiliar, it carries an emotional warmth that feels strangely nostalgic, gently calling her toward an unknown destination. Unable to ignore its presence, Mana embarks on a dreamlike journey to discover where the voice originated. Along the way, she encounters landscapes, memories, and symbolic experiences that gradually reconnect her with forgotten emotions buried deep within her heart. Rather than relying on conventional plot twists, the film unfolds through poetic imagery, quiet observation, and emotional reflection, allowing viewers to experience Mana’s inner transformation at their own pace. Muramatsu created the film with the hope of offering comfort to people living in a world increasingly focused on anxiety, suffering, and emotional exhaustion. Instead of encouraging audiences to erase painful memories, the story embraces the idea that healing begins by accepting both happiness and sorrow as inseparable parts of life.
