《MAD MASK》由日本搞笑藝人永野首次擔任電影導演，並與長期合作拍攝短片的電視導演新井勝也共同執導。作品改編自永野過去曾演出的喜劇段子，將原本荒誕的喜劇概念擴展成一部融合黑色喜劇、心理驚悚、懸疑與奇幻元素的另類電影，以充滿瘋狂想像力的方式探討身份、自我與人性失控。
故事開始於一間氣氛詭異的小酒吧。一名陌生男子深夜走進店內，而酒吧老闆表面上熱情招待客人，實際上卻是一名冷血連環殺手。他最大的癖好，就是殺害來訪的客人後，剝下對方的臉皮，製作成一張張可以戴上的「面具」，彷彿藉由奪取別人的容貌，也能暫時成為另一個人。
這一次，一切卻完全不同。
當老闆戴上新取得的人皮面具後，腦海中突然湧現大量陌生而恐怖的影像。他看見自己正在犯下一連串比過去更加殘忍、更加瘋狂的殺戮，而那些畫面真實得令人難以分辨究竟是預知、記憶、幻覺，還是真正正在發生的現實。
隨著時間推進，老闆逐漸察覺自己似乎失去對身體與意識的控制。他開始懷疑，是否正受到那名死去男子意識的操縱，又或者自己早已陷入精神崩潰。當他試圖將人皮面具摘下時，更發現面具竟與自己的皮膚逐漸融合，再也無法分離。
就在他逐步走向瘋狂之際，一名神秘女子突然出現在眼前。她的出現似乎掌握著一切真相，也讓整個故事朝向更加詭異且難以預測的方向發展。

MAD MASK is the feature directorial debut of Japanese comedian Nagano, who expands one of his own surreal comedy sketches into a full-length black comedy that blends psychological horror, crime, fantasy, and absurd humor. Co-directed with television director Katsuya Arai, the film embraces an unconventional style where disturbing violence and bizarre comedy coexist in equal measure.
The story begins inside a mysterious bar, where an apparently ordinary bartender hides a horrifying secret. Behind his calm exterior, he is a serial killer who murders his customers, removes their facial skin, and wears their faces as masks. By adopting the appearance of each victim, he indulges an obsession with becoming someone else.
Everything changes after his latest murder.
The moment he puts on his newest human mask, terrifying visions flood his mind. He witnesses scenes of himself committing murders even more grotesque and sadistic than anything he has ever done before. Unable to distinguish between hallucination, memory, prophecy, and reality, he gradually loses confidence in his own identity.
As panic grows, he desperately attempts to remove the mask, only to discover that it has begun merging with his own flesh. The horrifying transformation suggests that the victim’s consciousness may still exist within the mask—or perhaps the killer himself has descended into complete madness.
Just as his reality collapses, a mysterious woman appears, bringing new questions while deepening the mystery surrounding the masks, identity, and the blurred boundary between imagination and truth.
Rather than following the conventions of a traditional horror or crime thriller, MAD MASK deliberately embraces surreal storytelling and symbolic imagery. Violence frequently shifts into dark comedy, while shocking moments are interrupted by bizarre humor, creating an unsettling yet strangely entertaining atmosphere.
Nagano adapts his distinctive comedic sensibility into cinematic form, exploring themes of identity, personality, and the fear of losing oneself beneath another face. The film also raises philosophical questions about whether a person’s identity is defined by appearance, memory, or consciousness.
Featuring an eclectic cast that includes Nobuaki Kaneko, AiNA THE END, Takumi Saitoh, D.O, and Shota Totsuka, MAD MASK stands as an unconventional blend of horror, satire, and experimental cinema. Rather than offering simple scares, it presents a surreal journey into madness where comedy and terror become impossible to separate.
