English: Thomas Edison was one of the most influential inventors in modern history, reshaping daily life and redefining the relationship between technology and business.
English Version
Thomas Edison was born in 1847 in Ohio, United States, and became one of the most influential inventors in history, holding over a thousand patents throughout his lifetime and earning the title “Wizard of Menlo Park,” his achievements were not solely the result of innate talent but of relentless experimentation and persistence, as a child Edison struggled in formal schooling and was considered difficult to teach, yet his mother took over his education and nurtured his curiosity and independence, shaping his lifelong passion for learning, in his early years he worked as a newsboy and telegraph operator, where he developed practical skills and a fascination with electrical communication, his first major success came from improving telegraph systems, which led him to establish his own laboratory, most notably the Menlo Park research facility, often regarded as the world’s first industrial research lab and a precursor to modern R&D institutions, Edison is widely associated with the invention of the electric light bulb, although he did not invent it from scratch, he significantly improved its design by creating a durable filament and a complete electrical distribution system, making it practical for everyday use and enabling the expansion of urban electrification, another groundbreaking invention was the phonograph, the first device capable of recording and reproducing sound, revolutionizing the music and entertainment industries, he also contributed to early motion picture technology, laying the groundwork for the film industry, Edison’s approach to invention was holistic, he focused not only on creating devices but also on developing the systems and markets necessary for their success, this integration of technology and business became a defining feature of his legacy, his famous quote “Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration” reflects his belief in hard work and perseverance, however his career was not without controversy, particularly his rivalry with Nikola Tesla during the “War of Currents,” where Edison advocated direct current while Tesla promoted alternating current, ultimately AC prevailed, highlighting that even great innovators can make strategic misjudgments, nevertheless Edison’s impact remains immense, as he helped shape the modern model of innovation-driven enterprise, from lighting up cities to enabling recorded sound, his inventions transformed how people live, work, and communicate, his legacy is not only found in the devices he created but also in the systems of innovation, commercialization, and industrial research that continue to define technological progress today
