Written by the original playwright Makoto Ueda, the film combines youthful energy, clever storytelling, and intricate sci-fi concepts while never losing its lighthearted charm. During an unbearably hot summer vacation, five members of a university science fiction club and two students from the photography club spend their days lazily hiding from the heat inside their cramped clubroom. Unfortunately, disaster strikes when the remote control for the room’s only air conditioner breaks, leaving everyone to suffer through the oppressive temperatures. Just as frustration reaches its peak, an unexpected object suddenly appears in the room—a mysterious time machine. At first the students assume it is an elaborate prank, but after experimenting with it they discover that it genuinely allows travel into the past. Their first idea is wonderfully simple: travel back to the previous day, retrieve the air conditioner remote before it breaks, and return to the present. Three club members eagerly volunteer for the mission, believing the task will be completely harmless. However, as soon as the journey begins, reality becomes increasingly complicated. Strange visitors appear, including a younger club member claiming to have traveled from the year 2030, while seemingly insignificant events begin connecting across multiple timelines. The students slowly realize that even the smallest action in the past can create unexpected consequences, forcing them to navigate an increasingly tangled web of paradoxes, misunderstandings, and comic disasters. One of the film’s greatest strengths lies in its meticulous screenplay, where every conversation, object, and event eventually reveals a hidden purpose within the larger time loop. Rather than overwhelming audiences with complex scientific explanations, the story embraces humor and character interactions, making sophisticated time-travel mechanics surprisingly accessible and endlessly entertaining. Eita delivers a charming performance as Komoto, the earnest science fiction club member caught in the center of the chaos, while Juri Ueno brings warmth and playful charisma to Shibata from the photography club. Their natural chemistry adds emotional depth to an already delightful ensemble cast. Although the story revolves around science fiction, its true heart lies in celebrating friendship, youthful curiosity, and the joy of spending ordinary days with people who make even the smallest adventures unforgettable.
