English Version
Before the sky had fully brightened, the distant temple bells began to ring through the morning mist. Their deep, lingering sound travelled across the quiet garden, passing over the lake, the corridors, the bridges, and the sleeping pavilions. Darkness still rested upon the corners of the courtyard, yet a soft golden glow had already begun appearing beyond the eastern horizon. Dewdrops shimmered upon the rooftops, birds began calling from the trees, and the garden slowly awakened from its long night. Standing beside the window, Baoyu listened quietly to the bells and felt something within him changing. For many years, he had travelled through countless roads while repeatedly looking back toward moments that could never return. He once believed that remembering the past was the only way to keep what he had loved from disappearing. He had also feared that moving forward would mean travelling farther away from the people and memories that mattered most. But as the morning bells sounded again, he finally understood that remembering yesterday did not require living inside it. True remembrance means carrying the warmth of what we have experienced into the life that still lies ahead. Baoyu opened the door and walked slowly into the courtyard. The morning breeze carried the scent of flowers and damp earth, giving him a feeling of quiet clarity. Fallen petals rested upon the stone steps, while tiny new shoots had begun appearing beside the walls. Something old was fading while something new was quietly beginning. Life never truly stops; it simply changes its form with each passing season. Standing in the center of the courtyard, Baoyu looked back at the familiar buildings behind him. For the first time, he felt no need to hold onto them desperately. The places remained, the memories remained, and everything he had experienced had already become part of him. He did not need to grasp the past in order to keep it alive. Across the garden, Daiyu had awakened early as well. She opened her window and watched the first sunlight enter the room, illuminating an open book and a flowering branch nearby. Hearing the distant bells, she remembered the many experiences that had shaped her. There had been years when uncertainty frightened her and moments when fear of loss made her look constantly toward yesterday. Now she understood that courage does not mean knowing what tomorrow will bring. It means being willing to step forward even when the answers remain unknown. She adjusted her sleeves and walked quietly into the courtyard. The morning air was cool, but she no longer felt the need to retreat from uncertainty. She watched sunlight slowly reach the stone bridge while the mist above the lake gradually disappeared. Dawn never asks permission before arriving. It comes when its time has come. Perhaps people are the same. If we continue walking, one day we will reach a morning that belongs entirely to us. Baoyu and Daiyu met beneath the long corridor as the first sunlight spread across the garden. Neither hurried to discuss the past, and neither attempted to predict the future. The bells sounded again in the distance, clearer than before. Baoyu said softly, “The bells sound just as they did before.” Daiyu smiled gently. “The bells have not changed, but the person listening to them has.” Baoyu remained silent for a moment before nodding. She was right. The mountains, rivers, flowers, trees, and morning bells could remain familiar, yet people who had travelled through years of joy and hardship could never remain exactly the same. Pain had taught him tenderness. Farewell had taught him gratitude. Uncertainty had taught him to trust his own steps. None of these experiences were burdens to be carried forever. They had become the strength with which he could enter the future. Together they walked beside the lake. The morning mist had disappeared completely, leaving the water covered in golden reflections. Bridges and pavilions in the distance now stood clearly beneath the growing light. Baoyu suddenly stopped and looked toward a narrow path extending beyond the garden. He did not know where it would lead. There might be beautiful landscapes ahead, unexpected difficulties, or even new farewells. Yet this time he felt no fear. He understood that if we wait until everything is certain before beginning, we may never begin at all. A true journey starts while questions still remain and courage is still being gathered. Daiyu stood beside him and looked toward the mountains slowly emerging from the morning light. She felt the same quiet strength within herself. A new beginning did not mean abandoning everything that had come before. It meant carrying the people once loved, the roads once travelled, the tears once shed, and the warmth once received into the future. Memories should not become locks that prevent us from moving forward. They should become lamps that illuminate the road ahead. The bells gradually faded, their final echoes dissolving into the distant mountains. The Grand View Garden was now completely awake. Voices could be heard along the corridors, birds sang more clearly among the trees, and sunlight continued spreading across every corner of the landscape. Baoyu looked back once more at the familiar garden before turning toward the road ahead. Daiyu followed beside him. This time, neither looked back. They understood that the past had completed its role and that the future was waiting for another story to begin. Life is never a road with only one ending. Every ending can become the beginning of another journey. The morning bells had not merely announced the arrival of another day. They had reminded everyone who had survived difficult seasons that they did not need to remain trapped inside yesterday. As long as hope remained, they could begin again. As long as they trusted themselves, they could enter the unknown. And as long as they valued what they had once experienced, they no longer needed to fear farewell. Baoyu and Daiyu slowly disappeared along the sunlit path while the garden behind them became brighter and brighter. The mountain breeze moved gently through the flowers, branches swayed beneath the morning light, and the river continued travelling toward the horizon. Everything seemed ready to welcome a new beginning. The bells had faded into the distance, and a new journey was only just beginning.
