It was an ordinary night with no heavy rain no fog not even strong wind just the quiet transition between late night and early morning around 1 AM when traffic thins but the city is not fully asleep he was driving back toward the city through the Tai Lam Tunnel a route he knew well so well that he barely needed navigation he glanced at the dashboard clock 01:12 and estimated he would be out within five minutes as usual everything felt routine as he entered the tunnel the lights were normal evenly spaced no flickering nothing unusual yet something subtle changed the sound became strangely muffled not silent but as if absorbed even the engine felt distant he ignored it at first assuming it was just acoustics but then he noticed the car ahead maintaining an impossible distance no matter how he adjusted speed it neither moved closer nor farther he changed lanes but the car remained fixed like part of the background a detail that should not behave that way unease began to grow he checked the time again 01:14 by now he should be nearing the exit but the tunnel stretched endlessly the lights repeated the walls continued without change he accelerated to escape the feeling 80 then 90 but nothing advanced it felt like moving without progress as if space itself refused to shift he began to notice repeated markings on the wall numbers he felt he had already passed but could not be certain the familiarity blurred into anxiety then suddenly the car ahead vanished not turning not speeding up simply gone as if switched off the road was empty his heartbeat rose his hands tightened on the wheel he checked the time again 01:22 now fear settled in fully ten minutes had passed and he was still inside the tunnel he questioned everything the clock the phone reality itself he turned on the radio but only static answered no signal no connection it felt like isolation like being cut off from the outside world the concept of forward became uncertain was he even moving at all just when disorientation began to take hold a faint light appeared ahead the exit he rushed toward it and as soon as he emerged all sound returned at once wind engine distant traffic like surfacing from underwater he pulled over breathing hard and checked the time 01:27 fifteen minutes for a five minute tunnel later he reviewed his dashcam footage nothing unusual no missing frames no glitches everything appeared normal except for the undeniable extra time he tried to explain it to friends some suggested fatigue others blamed perception distortion or tunnel design but none of those explanations matched what he felt the absorbed sound the stagnant space the fixed car and its sudden disappearance it was not just illusion since then every time he enters the tunnel he checks the time instinctively sometimes he feels that brief moment again as if something is still there waiting unseen some say tunnels are transitional spaces connecting not only places but perhaps layers we cannot perceive if that night he crossed into another space then those extra ten minutes were not lost they were simply left somewhere beyond understanding and the real question is if it happens again would you notice or would you just drive through believing everything is normal
