Adam Smith (1723–1790) was a key figure of the Scottish Enlightenment and is widely regarded as the “Father of Modern Economics.” His most influential work, The Wealth of Nations, laid the foundation for free-market theory and division of labor, introducing the concept of the “invisible hand.” Smith profoundly shaped the development of capitalism worldwide.
