東漢末年，朝廷腐敗，宦官專權，外戚爭鬥，政治黑暗。百姓長年承受沉重賦稅與戰亂之苦，加上天災頻仍，民不聊生。整個天下，已經到了動盪不安的邊緣。
在這樣的背景下，鉅鹿人張角以宗教為號召，自稱「大賢良師」，提出「蒼天已死，黃天當立」的口號，發動黃巾起義。短短時間內，起義席捲全國，各州郡紛紛響應，動搖漢室根基。
朝廷震動，各地開始張榜招募義勇軍，以平定叛亂。
就在這樣的亂世之中，一位出身寒微卻心懷大志的人物登場——劉備。他雖以編織草鞋為生，但自稱漢室宗親之後，始終懷抱匡扶漢室的理想。
某日，劉備在涿郡街市見到招募義兵的榜文，不禁感慨時局。此時，一名身材魁梧、聲如洪鐘的壯漢走近，自報姓名張飛。他出身富裕，願出資招募義士，共同討賊。兩人一見如故，志趣相投。
不久，又有一人加入——關羽。他面如重棗，長鬚飄逸，氣度非凡。關羽因過去仗義殺人而流落江湖，但內心同樣懷抱報國之志。
三人初次相識，卻因志向一致而迅速建立深厚情誼。
張飛邀請劉備與關羽到自家後園桃園設宴。當時正值桃花盛開，景色如畫。三人在酒酣耳熱之際，決定結為異姓兄弟。他們焚香祭天，立下誓言：
「不求同年同月同日生，但願同年同月同日死。」
劉備為長兄，關羽為次兄，張飛為弟。
這場桃園結義，不僅是一段友情的開始，更象徵著忠義精神的誕生。

At the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, the imperial court falls into deep corruption. Eunuchs dominate politics, factions struggle for power, and the government loses control. Ordinary people suffer under heavy taxes, famine, and constant unrest. The empire stands on the brink of collapse.
Amid this chaos, Zhang Jiao of Julu rises as a religious leader. Calling himself the “Great Teacher,” he launches the Yellow Turban Rebellion with the slogan: “The Blue Heaven is dead; the Yellow Heaven shall rise.”
The rebellion spreads rapidly across the land, shaking the very foundation of the Han Dynasty.
Alarmed, the imperial court orders local authorities to recruit volunteer armies to suppress the uprising.
It is in this turbulent era that Liu Bei appears—a man of humble origins but great ambition. Though he earns a living weaving straw sandals, he claims descent from the imperial family and dreams of restoring the Han Dynasty.
One day, Liu Bei encounters a recruitment notice in the marketplace of Zhuo County. As he sighs over the state of the nation, a powerful voice interrupts him. A strong and bold man introduces himself as Zhang Fei, a wealthy butcher willing to fund a militia. The two quickly bond over their shared ideals.
Soon, another man joins them—Guan Yu. With a striking appearance and calm demeanor, he reveals that he is a fugitive who once killed in the name of justice. Despite his past, he too seeks to serve the country.
Though strangers, the three men feel an immediate connection through their shared sense of righteousness and ambition.
Zhang Fei invites Liu Bei and Guan Yu to his peach garden, where they hold a feast under blooming blossoms. In that moment, they decide to swear brotherhood.
Before heaven, they make their famous oath:
“Though not born on the same day, we wish to die on the same day.”
Liu Bei becomes the eldest brother, Guan Yu the second, and Zhang Fei the youngest.
This oath marks not only the beginning of their brotherhood but also the birth of a legendary bond defined by loyalty and honor.
Afterward, they begin recruiting volunteers and forming a militia. Though small in number, their determination is immense. They set out to fight against the Yellow Turban rebels and carve their place in history.
The Oath of the Peach Garden becomes one of the most iconic moments in Chinese literature, symbolizing brotherhood, loyalty, and the rise of heroes in a chaotic age.
